Balancing caregiving and professional responsibilities<\/h4>\r\n When I was seeking a new career opportunity, my priority was to find a role that offered true flexibility. With three young children, I have competing school, kinder and childcare schedules to juggle, along with ongoing allied health appointments for my son who lives with a disability.
\r\n
\r\nI really love the type of work I do! However, during this season of my life, a traditional and rigid working arrangement just isn’t feasible. At Mutual Trust, I get to be present for my kids every day and by my son’s side for his appointments, whilst doing challenging work I enjoy and developing my skillset along the way.
\r\n
\r\nSome days I work in the office, and others I work from home. I might be offline for an hour in the mid-morning whilst I take my son to an appointment, and then I can be found online at night getting the work done. I’m trusted to balance my responsibilities in a way that works for me. This is what clears my mind to focus on doing quality work and allows me to fully embrace the wonderful chaos that is my family life!

A defined career development pathway<\/h4>\r\n I joined Mutual Trust in 2008 as an Associate Advisor. Since then, I’ve had opportunities to consistently progress in my career, taking on roles of increasing seniority. Today, I am a Director in Mutual Trust’s wealth team, where I enjoy helping clients build and execute on their investment strategies, along with mentoring and developing new starters.
\r\n
\r\nOver the years, I’ve made some great friendships and I love being able to work with and learn from colleagues right across the business. To offer informed investment advice, it’s so important to form a holistic view of a client’s wealth, and so I spend a lot of time collaborating with colleagues from other Mutual Trust services (such as accounting, superannuation and estate planning).
\r\n
\r\nAs I look ahead, I would like to become a Partner within the Wealth line of service, building out a team of Advisors. I really enjoy being part of a team and helping to grow the business.

Kickstarting a career in accounting<\/h4>\r\n I joined Mutual Trust in 2023 after applying for the student accounting program. Designed for undergraduates with zero to little experience in the accounting field, I saw the program as a great opportunity to kickstart my career.
\r\n
\r\nThere are lots of organisations out there that offer entry level accounting opportunities. What appealed to me about Mutual Trust was the smaller team environment – I prefer to work with people in person and form genuine relationships over time.
\r\n
\r\nI really value the ongoing training I receive whilst working in the Adelaide office. I get to support a wide range of family groups and individuals with varying levels of complexity and wealth. This exposure has rapidly developed my skillset – something I don’t think I’d get to experience in a larger firm.
\r\n
\r\nI also love the focus on having fun, alongside all the work we do. Beyond the mid and end-of-year celebrations, I really enjoyed a recent opportunity to attend a charity day with my team, where we prepared ‘treasure boxes’ with essential goods for children to help families in need.
\r\n
\r\nFrom senior management through to my colleagues, I’ve found the people and the environment at Mutual Trust to be so friendly, engaging and positive. I’m motivated and empowered to excel in my role and I look forward to the opportunity to continue working within the firm as a graduate accountant, after I complete my degree.

A sense of belonging, away from home<\/h4>\r\n For the last eight years, I’ve been living in Australia – initially to complete my studies and then to embark on my career. Whilst I’ve established a great network around me and am very happy here, I do often miss aspects of life back in my homeland.
\r\n
\r\nSomething I love about working at Mutual Trust is the value the firm places on cultural diversity. We regularly reflect on the rich diversity of our workforce during national events such as Harmony Day, along with finding other ways to celebrate such as morning teas, where we share dishes typical of our cultural backgrounds. There’s even been an internal video produced where colleagues share interesting facts about their cultures and clarify how to correctly pronounce their names!
\r\n
\r\nWith many of my family members and friends living back home, I don’t get to see them often. I really value being able to purchase extra leave each year – this allows me to visit them and spend quality time together, not to mention make the most of the long journey and cost to get there.
